What The Postpartum Resource Center of New York Actually Does
When you hear me talk about the Postpartum Resource Center of New York (PRCNY), it might sound like “just another organization” in the maternal mental health space.
But I don’t walk and fundraise for “just another organization.”
I want to share what PRCNY actually does, and why I trust them enough to put my time, energy, and voice behind their work year after year.
A lifeline for parents who are not okay
The Postpartum Resource Center of New York focuses on perinatal mood and anxiety disorders: postpartum depression, anxiety, OCD, bipolar disorder, and more.
In real life, that looks like:
- A statewide helpline where parents can call, email, or reach out online and get connected to real support
- Referrals to therapists, support groups, and local resources that understand perinatal mental health, not just “general stress”
- Information and tools for families who are trying to understand what’s happening and what to do next
When someone reaches out, they’re not talking to a random, disconnected call center. They’re connecting with people who are trained to take them seriously, not dismiss them.
Educating communities and professionals
PRCNY doesn’t just help individual parents. They also work to change the systems around them.
That includes:
- Providing training and education for medical providers, community organizations, and support people
- Helping professionals recognize the signs of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders
- Encouraging better screening, earlier intervention, and more compassionate care
Because let’s be honest: too many parents are still told “it’s just hormones” or “this is normal.” Training and education are part of how we change that.
Creating visible awareness and connection
Events like the Hope Is Here 5k for Parental Mental Health Awareness are another big piece of PRCNY’s work.
The 5k isn’t just a fundraiser. It’s a visible, public way to say:
- Maternal and parental mental health are real and important
- Families who are struggling deserve support, not shame
- We’re willing to show up for them with our feet, our time, and our donations
Every year, parents, kids, partners, friends, and professionals come together at the Hope Is Here 5k to walk, run, and raise awareness side by side.
Why I trust them enough to walk and fundraise
When I send someone to the Postpartum Resource Center of New York, I’m not sending them into a void. I’m connecting them to a place that:
- Understands the nuances of perinatal mental health
- Is committed to ongoing education and awareness
- Is rooted in compassion for real families in real crisis
That’s why I’m proud to walk the Hope Is Here 5k and fundraise with Team Mama Outspoken.
If even one parent finds the helpline a little sooner…
If even one provider recognizes the symptoms a little more clearly…
If even one family feels less alone because of this work…
Then every step, every dollar, and every conversation is worth it.
