When You Don’t Feel Like Yourself Anymore (And Wonder If She’s Gone For Good)
One of the hardest parts of postpartum isn’t talked about enough:
The feeling that you’ve disappeared.
You look in the mirror and your body is different.
Your days revolve around feeding, changing, and soothing.
Your brain feels foggy and scattered.
You might think, “Where did I go? Will I ever feel like myself again?”
The invisible grief of losing your old self
There’s a quiet grief that comes with becoming a mother:
The freedom you used to have
The hobbies you enjoyed without planning around naps
The career or identity you were proud of
The simple act of leaving the house without a checklist
No one throws you a ceremony for what you lost. They just hand you a baby and say, “Congratulations.”
You are allowed to grieve the old version of you, even while loving your new baby.
You’re not broken, you’re in transition
It’s easy to interpret this identity crisis as proof that you’re failing.
But what’s actually happening is transition.
You’re not who you were before baby.
You’re not yet the version of you that feels settled in this new season.
You’re in the in‑between.
And the in‑between is uncomfortable, confusing, and emotional.
What helps in the in‑between
In this season, you don’t need to “bounce back.”
You need:
Permission to say “I miss who I used to be”
Connection with moms who are in the same fog
Small, realistic ways to reconnect with you again
Tiny acts of remembering yourself count:
Listening to a podcast that speaks to your real experience
Sharing a story in a safe community and being heard
Taking one small step toward something that feels like you
A space to be seen in this version of you
Inside Mama Outspoken Village, we don’t expect you to show up as the “put‑together” version of yourself.
We welcome:
The tired, unshowered version
The crying‑in‑the‑bathroom version
The “I don’t even know who I am anymore” version
The Village is a gentle community, podcast, and resource hub for postpartum moms who want to feel seen, heard, and supported as they figure out who they’re becoming.
You are not lost. You are in process.
And you don’t have to walk that process alone.
